Job Description

The Department of Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering (GGPE) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Geological Engineering (tenure track) to begin August 2023. Research areas may include the application of remotely sensed data to geotechnical engineering, geohazards, water resources, renewable energy, ecosystem, and/or climate change.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in GIS, remote sensing, and other areas of expertise; research and scholarly publication; and advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues on campus and with national and international colleagues to develop a dynamic, externally funded, cross-disciplinary research program.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in geological engineering or closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

We seek a candidate with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the collection and application of remotely sensed data (satellite, drones, or aircraft) for solving engineering problems.

Experience with computational analysis of large GIS and remote sensing data sets, will be advantageous.

Exceptionally well qualified individuals seeking appointment at the Associate Professor level may be considered.
