ABOUT THE JOB

Responsible for maintenance of the trauma center's trauma registry. Ensures timely, detailed, and reliable data collection, abstraction, coding/scoring, entry and analysis for the trauma patient population. Responsible for assisting non-clinical registrars with anatomy, pathophysiology, and trauma care processes for complex patient cases. In addition, this position works closely with other members of the trauma center staff on performance improvement initiatives.

SALARY RANGE: $32.82 - $48.27

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Accurately identify injured patients who meet trauma registry inclusion criteria. Perform precise chart analysis and abstraction of all identified patient charts including appropriate coding and entry into the trauma registry. Must adhere to standardized coding rules and quality standards.

Coordinate with outside agencies to obtain medical records.

Assist with required data submissions to state and national registries. Analyze data for accuracy and validate for submission to state and national databases in a timely manner.

Assist in the efficient operation of the Trauma Patient Registry by collecting and compiling statistics and data analysis as required for American College of Surgeons compliance, as well as analyzing benchmarking reports upon release to the trauma center. Participate in routine TQIP educational offerings.

Maintain current knowledge in nursing practice with an in-depth knowledge in trauma care. Assist non-clinical TQIP Coordinators with anatomy, pathophysiology and trauma care process for complex patient cases.

Generate reports needed for research, quality metric monitoring, performance improvement initiatives and outreach activities.

Collaborate with trauma center staff in the development and implementation of quality monitoring, performance improvement initiatives and injury prevention/outreach efforts.

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the standards/criteria required to maintain Level I Trauma Center verification by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

Stay current in the trauma industry by attending national, regional, and/or state meetings/workshops.

May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Two (2) years of RN experience in an area of specialization.

Completion of a Trauma Registrar course by the American Trauma Society (ATS) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

AIS and Injury Scoring course by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) by the American Trauma Society (ATS) within three (3) years is strongly preferred.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
