Job Description

MU International Programs seeks a student-centered, innovative, and collaborative leader to serve as Assistant Director of Study Abroad in the Mizzou Study Abroad team.
Reporting to the Director of Study Abroad, the Assistant Director (AD) is a key member of the study abroad senior leadership team and will play an active role to implement our bold vision, "to ensure that by 2030 every student will have a global learning experience at Mizzou, both on campus (or domestically) and abroad."
This student-facing role will contribute to strategic student support areas including:

  • Student advising
  • Faculty-led program coordination
  • Exchange Program management

DUTIES:
Student Advising:

  • Ensure that our advising services are transformative to help students unleash their full potential as future global leaders.
  • Work with assigned academic departments to identify and promote specific study abroad opportunities for students in these majors.
  • Provide initial study abroad advising for students.
  • Supervise and provide mentoring to the study abroad advisors on the team to ensure outstanding student service.
  • Coordinate and oversee the advising processes for exchange, direct enroll, and affiliated study abroad programs for undergraduate and graduate students in an assigned geographical region.
  • Serve as primary liaison between MU overseas and U.S. colleagues regarding academic and administrative issues related to study abroad programs.
  • Coordinate visa processing for students studying on assigned MU programs; represent MU to foreign embassies and consulates and visa processing agencies as needed.
  • Ensure that the advising team converts student leads into committed students and accelerate student decision commitment timelines.
  • Work closely with Communications team to effectively track study abroad advising appointments, staff advising workloads, and help make data informed decisions.
  • Promote programs, coordinate admissions and site-specific orientation process, develop budgets, and manage problems and special situations as needed.


Faculty led Programs:

  • Partner with faculty leaders and academic departments to actively recruit students for assigned faculty-led programs.
  • Exhibit excellent business acumen and provide superb customer service and support to faculty and administrators in academic units.
  • Work with MU faculty members overseas and international partners to design, coordinate, and promote assigned faculty-led study abroad programs.
  • Develop and manage program budgets, contracts and agreements for assigned programs.


Exchange Programs:

  • Revamp exchange program to increase student mobility and ensure active collaborations with exchange partners.
  • Provide guidance and support to Study Abroad Exchange Advisor.
  • Assist Director of Study Abroad in reviewing all exchange agreements.


Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to UM System South Africa activities.
  • Oversee re-entry programming.
  • Serve on an on-call rotation in the event of a health, safety or security incident abroad.
  • Manage the post-study abroad program evaluation process.


Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Shift

M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Four years of previous experience advising/counseling students in an education abroad office or other university environment.
  • Five years of previous experience in international education.
  • International experience through study, work, living or volunteering abroad.
  • Second language skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity and equity.
  • Ability to multi-task and function in a fast-paced, high-volume office setting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, administrative and budgeting skills.
  • Familiarity with TerraDotta software.
  • Demonstrated abilities in building effective partnerships with faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as individually.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,875 - $60,000/year

Grade: GGS-010
